The term Genius Loci was used in classical Roman religion to identify the protective spirit of a place. In contemporary usage it refers to the distinctive spirit of a specific place. For me this notion is embodied in the space of an open field, as the eye sweeps across a space held in place by the horizon. The piece is a one of a kind artist book of graphite and ink drawings. The book is hand bound in a cloth covered chemise by the artist.

Bartram’s Boxes Remix project of the Center for Art in Wood and Bartram Gardens
A collaborative with poet Beth Feldman Brant in which I constructed 3 boxes that contain artifacts from trees, handmade books with Brandt’s poems and scrolls. The images and poems explore three themes of Journeys, Helpmeets, and Storms.
Exhibit opens: May 2 and continues to July 19th
