  • Sage: This broadside is collaboration between poet Beth Feldman Brandt and book artist Claire Owen. The poem is one of a collection written by Feldman Brandt using John Gerard’s “The herbal: or, General History of plants” (1633) as a point of departure. From this beautifully illustrated and comprehensive catalogue of plants Feldman Brandt created “found poems” (shown in italics on left) and wrote another poem in response to the first shown in roman on left. This is one of 22 poems that will become an artist book produced by Turtle Island Press. The broadside is printed on Fabriano watercolor paper and measures 13 ¾” x 10 ¼”.The text is set in Centaur with Arrighi titling. It is printed letterpress by Art Larson in Hadley MA. The image is a digital reproduction of a watercolor made by Owen. It was printed in an edition of 30 with 4 AP’s. It is signed by the poet and artist.
